Lowburn Ferry Pinot Noir 2006

Tasting Notes:

TASTING NOTES
Lowburn Ferry Pinot Noir 2006 shows notes of dark cherries, violets and spice on the nose with a toasty oak complexity. On the back palate there are hints of dark fruits, liquorice and chocolate. This elegant Pinot Noir is long and exhibits velvety, silky tannins and is smooth in the finish. It matches well with food especially venison, lamb and duck. It will continue to develop depth and complexity for 5-7 years.

Clones 777 and 667 harvested on 1st April followed by Clones 5 and 115 on 8th April 2006.
10% whole bunch, the must was cold soaked for 5 days in an open top fermenter, then warmed and inoculated. During the fermentation (5 days), the wine was hand plunged up to 3 times daily, and then left on skins for a further 3 day post fermentation maceration. After pressing the wine was aged in French oak barriques (30% new) for 10 months, where it completed malolactic fermentation. In late February 2007 the wine was racked off its yeast lees and lightly filtered but left unfined before bottling in March 2007.
